You can go ahead and scan the QR code on your
screen, or else click on the link in the chat to take you there and, uh, book your session. So that being said, let's look at what our session will look like for this evening. Tonight, you will be walking away knowing exactly what foundations you need in place to scale and how to fix the marketing leaks hindering your growth, why evidence-based training matters more than ever, and what financial and operational systems future-ready practices rely on. So with that being said, uh, let's get to know you, our audience members. So before we begin, drop in the chat where you're tuning in from, and what's one word that describes your goal
for 2026. We would love to see a rainfall of answers here. Uh, we'll take a few seconds to get to know you. Okay, boom. There we go. We got Emily from Utah, "Growth." Uh, we know, Angie's also from Utah. Oh, y- do you know Emily, Ange? (laughs) Okay, I had a feeling. All right, fantastic. Welcome, uh, Emily. And okay, we got Kim from North Carolina, "Growing my client base." Well, you're gonna hear a little bit about, uh, few tips and tricks to do exactly just that. And then we got Sarah from Manitoba. Wow, oh, welcome Sarah. And, uh, you're looking forward to growth.
There we go. Fantastic. We got Joanne from Ottawa. Welcome, Joanne. And yes, so welcome everyone. Oh my gosh, Kelsey from Ontario. We got- we got a mix of, uh, people from Canada as well, so fantastic to have you all here, from Delaware. So yeah, love this, keep this engagement going throughout the discussion. You know, when the panelists are, um, sharing their thoughts and opinions, do feel free to ask any questions or else, um, you know, share your comments with us. Uh, it would be great if we could, uh, use the Q&A, uh, section to ask the questions, because sometimes, uh,
the chat might, you know, we might miss a question here or two. But if you have a question and you put it in the Q&A section itself, uh, we will be able to get to it, you know, without any kind of issue. So with that being said, uh, thank you all for the lovely engagement and, uh, you know, being with us here this, uh, evening. Let's get into it. So first off, I would like to introduce our first panelist for this session. As practices grow, so do their risks and their responsibilities. Cara MacClanahan guides aesthetic owners through that complexity with clear, scalable operational systems that
reduce liability and strengthen financial decision-making. Her work transforms overwhelmed teams into aligned, empowered contributors. Tonight, she helps us understand what future readiness really looks like. Cara, welcome to the Business of Aesthetics Live Summit. Thank you so much for having me. I'm thrilled to be here tonight, and I'm actually super excited to see all the- the practices joining us from across the US, across Canada, and all those amazing places. Like, people are excited for this information and energy, and I love it. So thank you for having me. Absolutely, love it. It's- it's our pleasure and honor to have you here, Cara. So just to frame what we are going to talk about a little bit, why this conversation matters right
now. States like Texas have began tightening med spa laws after high-profile safety incidents, and more regulatory action is expected in 2026. And financial complexities rising sharply with each provider added, each room expanded, and each new location launched. With healthcare burnout rates hovering near 45 to 50%, team alignment has become a growth imperative. So scaling isn't just an opportunity, it's compliance, it's financial, and of course there are leadership challenges as well. That being said, Kara, as practices expand, what compliance and regulatory
challenges should owners be aware of, and how can leaders build systems that minimize risk without compromising patient experience? Okay. So that is a huge question, and you hit it on the nail a moment ago, or hit the nail on the head a moment ago when you said that compliance and regulatory is really starting to crack down. I would argue that it's always been there, um, and we should have always paid attention to it, but I'm a compliance nerd. Um, and the reality is, aesthetic practices face a patchwork of state and federal regulations, especially as they expand or open new locations, add providers. Um, probably one of the biggest and most common challenges is keeping up with all the changes, things like scope, uh, practice laws, you know,
licensure requirements. You know, you mentioned, you know, Texas is cracking down. There's multiple states that have regulation right now that are tightening the scope of practice. I had a client recently that laws had changed in their state, and they weren't paying attention to those emails and those letters that came through, and three years go by and they had no idea they were out of compliance. Um, those things happen, and they're actually happening much more rapidly. So the scope of practice, um, and licensure regis- uh, requirements are, are a big one. The other thing is privacy and patient data security. That's another area where little, teeny, tiny, small oversights create huge headaches. It used to be that we worried about HIPAA or we, we were aware of these things, but nobody checks on those. And, "Oh, it just happened that once," but the reality is, those little, teeny,
